Irys Instrument
The Irys Instrument is a revolutionary genome mapping platform that uses single molecule DNA imaging technology to visualize genomes of any organisms including humans, animals and plants. The instrument analyzes very long (ranging from hundreds of kilobases to a megabase), unamplified stretches of DNA by linearizing DNA molecules through massively parallel nanochannels. Irys does not fragment or amplify DNA, which are typical in next-generation sequencing, resulting in sequence information across extremely long reads which preserves a genome’s valuable structural information. Irys makes it possible for researchers to directly observe structural variants including replications, deletions, translocations and inversions. This macro-level analysis could be used on its own (e.g, structural variation analysis) or in conjunction with NGS data (e.g., sequence assembly).
